Knife Classification
Cutting tools can be divided into five categories according to the shape of the workpiece surface:
Tools for machining various outer surfaces include lathe tools, planing tools, milling cutters, external surface broaches, and files; hole machining tools include drills, reamers, boring tools, reamers, and internal surface broaches;
Thread machining tools include taps, dies, self-opening thread cutting heads, thread turning tools, and thread milling cutters; gear machining tools include hobs, gear shapers, gear shaving cutters, bevel gears, and broaches;
Cutting tools include inserted-tooth circular saw blades, band saws, hacksaws, parting-off tools, and saw milling cutters.
In addition, there are combination tools. According to the cutting motion method and the corresponding blade shape, cutting tools can also be divided into three categories:
General-purpose tools such as lathe tools, planing tools, milling cutters (excluding shaped lathe tools, shaped planing tools, and shaped milling cutters), boring tools, drills, reamers, reamers, and saws;
Forming tools The blades of these tools have the same or similar shape as the cross-section of the workpiece being machined, such as shaped lathe tools, shaped planing tools, shaped milling cutters, broaches, cone reamers, and various thread machining tools;
Special tools for machining special workpieces, such as: tools used for gears, splines, etc. such as gear shapers, gear shaving cutters, bevel gear planing tools, and bevel gear milling discs.
